THE REINING MARES

A treasure... a black pearl

One of Toyon's own mares, Obsidian brings a whole new dimension to reining in Australia.

By 9 million dollar super sire SMART SPOOK - one of the world's premier broodmare sires, he is the sire of countless futurity and derby winners in the US AND Europe, including triple World Champion EBONY SPOOK (dam of out imported CSG EBONY) and RFAM winner PATRIOT.

Her dam is the celebrated Tamarack mare ELECTRIC GENES - shown by Andrea Fappani, she won - $89,926 US. Big wins included split 5th NRHA Open Futurity, Reining by the Bay Open Derby Champion; Cactus Reining Classic Open Derby Co-Reserve Champion.

Obsidian (Sascha) was bred by none other than 3 million dollar plus breeder Roseanne Sternberg who's world famous and respected Sterling Ranch, has produced countless futurity and derby champions in the US and Europe. (CSG Ebony imp was also bred by Roseanne.

Even more importantly EG has produced almost $400,000 US in progeny earnings to date including futurity and derby winners Itsallinthegenes, (FULL BROTHER TO OBSIDIAN) Electric Enterprise, All In on Black, Joe Genes ..

EG's dam is the elite mare TARIS DESIGNER JEANS - NRHA Futurity Champion, earner of close to $300,000 US and with progeny earnings approaching $900,000US. She is the dam of multiple NRHA and Derby winners and finalists - including TR Designer Genes, Ice Cube, Electric Genes (full brother to EG), Designed With Shine , Designed To Spark, Guns In My Genes.

Obsidian has some stunning , superbly bred babies approaching futurity age - looking forward to watching their journeys.

The fact that she is in foal to Toyon's rising super star VULCANO (Spooks Gotta Whiz x Dun It In Silver) for an Australian born foal is the icing on the cake. Toyon think a LOT of this young champion, breeding a number of their top mares to him this season. He is not available in Australia.

It's all about the mares and the damlines...... Obsidian - the next chapter in the evolution of the Australian reining horse
