THE JAMUNA MISSION & BREEDING PHILOSOPHY
At Jamuna, our mission is to produce reining, cutting, cow and ranch horses of uncompromising quality through a foundation of elite mares and world-class stallions.
With over forty years of dedication to excellence, not just with Quarter horses but also with Arabians, Thoroughbreds and Warmbloods, our horses have achieved the highest honours as National Champions, Hall of Famers, Futurity and Derby winners, and those exported have gone on to be successful competition and breeding in NZ, the UK, the US and Indonesia.
We are committed to providing the highest level of care for mares and foals, ensuring that every horse has the best start to reach its full potential. This is crucial when breeding any horse, but even more so with a performance horse where soundness and suitability for the job are paramount.
We believe the dam and the damline are of the utmost importance - even more important than the sire -so we have gone to extreme lengths to ensure that the broodmare band consists ONLY of mares that have proven themselves in the show /performance arena themselves and/or produced progeny who have and/or have siblings that have been successful and dams and grand dams that have been CONSISTENT producers of elite horses.
The criteria we strive for -
*Exceptional athletic ability BUT, there is no point in having that if the horses are too "hot" or can't stay sound so good minds, brains and being well put together to lessen the stress on their bodies and make their jobs easier are paramount. Temperament is also high on the list - as can be seen by the many Jamuna bred horses that are not just winning with trainers - they are reaching the highest levels with non-pros too.
*REALLY good movement - a proper lope, a good trot and walk. The days are gone when a jogalope would score in a reining pattern, and the fast circles we want now need a horse that has the speed and the conformation to be able to hold that together. With Ranch becoming such a big and important discipline, perfect for our reiners, good movement is even more important as a ranch horse HAS to move well so a ground covering lope, a forward, long trot and a GOOD walk are must haves.
* Some size. The reiners AND the cutters have been getting smaller and smaller so we want to keep some size in the program.
*Foals that are MYHM clear and clear of all autosomal dominant genetic disorders - MYHM, HYPP, MH and PSSM1. These disorders only require the horse to have one copy to possibly be affected.
* Some pretty. I know a horse does not have to be pretty to be a top-level reiner, cutter or ranch horse, but it doesn't hurt!
Our legacy of breeding excellence is PROVEN, and our passion drives us to continue shaping champions for generations to come.
Just some of the stars bred by Yamuna...
